Drill Holes in Rocks
I will be the first to admit, I don’t know everything about rock painting. I don’t think anyone can honestly claim they do. So for the things I don’t know, I find someone who does!
Rachel, from Rachel’s Rocks, can drill holes in rocks to create beautiful jewelry for her Etsy shop!
Today she has been so kind to let us share her tutorial with you! See more of her amazing rocks on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.

Step by step instructions for drilling holes in stones
The supplies needed for this project is a Dremel Rotary Tool with a hollow diamond drill bit. These come in a variety of different sizes depending on the hole you want to create. You will also need a stone, bowl, water, and a scrap of cardboard. You may also want to grab a set of clasps for your jewelry. If you really get into the process you can get a stand for your Dremel as well which will really help in the process.
***ABOVE ALL TAKE YOUR TIME AND BE CAREFUL***
Start by marking a dot on your stone to aim for. Place your stone on a piece of cardboard in a bowl. The cardboard helps keep your stone from slipping. Add enough water to just cover the stone. Start by holding your drill straight up and down on your rock.
If you tilt your Dremel too early it could slip and scratch up your rock. Once you have broken the surface and created a small dent you can start to tilt your tip a bit to widen the circle if you need. Keep an eye on your water. It can get a bit foggy from the dust.
Clean the water out from time to time. For this same reason, Rachel also suggests a well-lit room or a headlamp.
Continue pressing down into your stone until you come out the other side! You can also drill the stone in more than one place!
