The most important supply for this project is colored pencils.
When using colored pencils on rocks you will want to pick a decent colored pencil. If they are too cheap they won’t have the waxy consistency you will need for blending. So experiment with what you have around the house. If it isn’t working this is most likely the reason.
Today we are going to talk about blending. Start with a light layer of pencil on your rock. You will slowly be building up the color as you blend.
I went light on the inside and dark on the outside.
You will see there is still a lot of rock showing through.
Now start with your second layer. I added some white in the middle.
Then used my light blue to start blending. See how the rock is getting covered a bit more.
Slowly increase the pressure as you add on your layers of color.
Finally, you can take your finger and blend it around.
You will get some on your skin, but it is easy to wash off.
I used my colored pencil rock for a hand lettering rock. You can paint a picture on it too.
